Making the Essential Enjoyable & Easy

Making Monday

I've heard it said that how we feel on Mondays is one of the clearest indicators of life satisfaction. Here is a quick thought on how to make Monday—and every day—work better...

3E Change: Connecting Purpose

This post is the first of three on the 3E Change Model at the core of the End the Fight process.

We tend to do things we consider essential. Not just important, but essential.

They concern a matter of life and death. Or they embody and express core values and identity.

Another way to say this is that they serve a purpose connected to what is most precious to us.

And when an action connects at this level of purpose, we recognize it as essential.

So we get it done.

We stop negotiating with ourselves about it, which removes a whole step of consideration and possible friction.

The only question remaining is HOW to do it in a way that is more enjoyable and easier.

Not IF to do it.

Here are some questions to reflect upon about a course of action:

   • What purpose does it serve?

   • What will be the ripple effects through all aspects of my life?

   • What do I trade off by not doing it?

   • What will neglect in this area cost me over time?

Through these questions we may discover an action is important but not essential. That's OK, too. We can relax some and create a process for chipping away at it in an appropriate timeframe.

The questions can also help us see sneaky ways neglect can creep into essential actions, like when our attention gets displaced by urgent matters…

Which may not even rate as important.

As someone wiser than me once said, “The biggest waste of time is doing something well that need not be done at all.”

Or that serves no significant purpose.

Together, let's end the fight to change—
