Making Monday
I've heard it said that how we feel on Mondays is one of the clearest indicators of life satisfaction. Here is a quick thought on how to make Monday—and every day—work better...
The Subtraction Solution
When we want to change an aspect of our wellness, efficacy, or life satisfaction, our default approach is additive.
We reflexively try to do MORE to bring it about…
More gym visits, more food prep, more “quality” time, more books, more gurus, more hustle, more grind, more strategies, more tactics, more willpower, more self-discipline, more accountability.
We are already carrying 10 pounds in a proverbial 5-pound bag, but our default is to add another 10 pounds.
Then the bag gets too heavy to carry or the bottom rips out.
Overwhelm gets us stuck. Subtraction is the way out of overwhelm.
And clarity guides subtraction.
With a bit of reflection in a stray moment or a conversation with a friend, we can get clearer about what our heart desires.
And what we seek to move away from that is no longer acceptable.
And what we are—and are not—willing to trade off or sacrifice.
Then, rather than building a program and an action plan and another spreadsheet, we can look for opportunities to release what doesn't serve our desired direction.
Getting clear about what NOT to do and dropping or disentangling from these actions creates space and energy for what we most want.
With this greater space and energy, the right actions get easier and more enjoyable and create a self-perpetuating momentum.
They just require more oxygen to come to life.
Subtraction provides that breathing room.
Together, let's end the fight to change—
